Melbourne, Thursday. A meeting of residents in the Riverina district lying between the Murray and Murrambidgeo Rivers, forming part of New South Wales, will be held here tomorrow for the purpose of coDsidering the question
of separation from New South Wales, which has been advocated at meetings held afc other places. [Received Jan. 31, 1.25 p.m.] Sydney, Thursday. Sailed on Tuesday afternoon— Steamship Wakatipu for Wellington. A largely attended demonstration took place lasb night in opposition to fche immigration policy of the Government, and it was decided to present a monster petition to Parliament praying for the cessation of the immigration scheme. The taxation set forth in the Treasurer's recent budget statement ia being warmly criticised, and the opposition to his proposals is daily increasing
