The local journal has an account of the narrow escape of the steamer Yarra, when crossing the bar on the 6th inst., with passengers from the Rangitoto. A fearful sea washed Mr. Dalton overboard, who had taken a cabin passage iu Sydney, per City of Melbourne, to join the Rangitoto in Melbourne. He was en route for England. The Times adds, 'we only wonder all the deck passengers were not swept away. Mr. 11. W. Bracken, of the Queenstown Hotel, Hokitika, is about to retire from business. His hotel is advertised for sale.
