GOLF.

RANGIORA CLUB. MEN’S BOGEY MATCH. On Saturday last the Rangiora Gob Club held a four ball bogey match fo: men, the proceeds being in aid of tht Relief Depot. The North Canterbury Golf Championships at Harewood and other attractions caused rather poor entries, but some good cards were returned. Prizes were given by Dr. King and T. H. Blain lor the best scores and these were won by Messrs. J. E. Strachan and H. A: Bennett. Mr. Straehan was in exceptionally good fettle, taking only 39 for the second nine holes. Mr. Bennett ably supported Mr. Strachan and played a very steady game which did not give much away. The proceeds of the match, which total £4/1/6, will be handed over to the Relief Depot.

Mclntosh shield. Rangiora v. Kaiapoi. Next Saturday at Kaiapoi the match for the Mclntosh Shield will be played, and as the club has entered its strongest team of eight well season players, some good golf should be seen. A Team. J. MEETING OF COMMITTEE. On Thursday, 11th August, a meeting of the Rangiora Golf Club’s committee was held in the secretary’s office, Dr. E. S. McPhail being in the chair. The following members were present : Misses Ambrose and Morrish, Dr. King, Mrs. E. D. R. Smith, J. M. Fraser, P. G. Ellis, R. G. Edward, A. Purdie, and the secretary, Mr. F. G. Tolmie. An apology was received from Mr. G. March for his absence. New Members. The following new members were elected: Mrs. V. M. Godfrey, Miss S. P. Godfrey, and Miss J. B. Palairet. Finance. Accounts amounting to £ls/8/7 were passed for payment. The secretary reported that there was a credit balance in the bank of * £24/1/3.

New Score-Card. The new score-card was submitted and passed. The rules at the back of the card have been altered and a new rule added as follows: Rule s.—ln playing the ninth hole a ball driven from the tee into either of the two gullies between the white pegs may be lifted and dropped directly hack without penalty; the ditch under the terrace and on the left of the fairway and to the left of the white pegs to be treated as a water hazard. The holes at which strokes are given were also reversed. Match Postponed. Owing to the wet weather the match with Charteris Bay was postponed on August 7, and a date will probably be announced later.

GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS. Rangiora Success. Last Saturday at Harewood at the North Canterbury Golf Championships the Rangiora Club entered five players but only one played a good game. Mr. J. Palairet, playing with remarkable steadiness, tied for first place in the Junior Championship. Mr. Palairet was right on his game and played with a very good one. None of the other great accuracy throughout, returning cards of 86 and 85 strokes. This performance, considering the weather, was four men was on his game or returned a good tally. KAIAPOI LADIES’ CLUB. The following were the best cards returned in the August L.G.U. medal competition of the Kaiapoi Ladies’ Golf Club:—
