Mr William Evans
OBITUARY.
Mr William Evans, who was wellknown in the Northern Wairoa district, having lived there for 27 years, died at Whangarei on Sunday, aged 83. Mr Evans spent the last three years of his life in Whangarei. Ke was the eldest son of the late Mrs Anne Evans, a pioneer Taranaki nurse, who was associated with Florence Nightingale in the Crimean War.
Mr Evans arrived in Dargaville in 1922 from Hawcra, where he was employed for some years by the Hawera Star and later by the Ekdahl printing works. In Northern Wairoa he was first employed in newspaper work. Mr Evans took a keen interest in Rugby football and was concerned in fostering juvenile sport. He is survived by one daughter. Mrs M. Davies, of Marton Junction, and one sister, Mrs M. Walshe. of New Plymouth. His wife predeceased him several years ago.
