£59,000 Fond For Jewish School
AUCKLAND, Sat., (P.A.).— Provision for a trust fund of about £59,000 to found a Jewish educational institution in Auckland is contained in the will of Bernard Goldwater, and Auckland pioneer who died in June. Apart from several small legacies and a life interest to Mr Goldwater’s widow, the capital of the estate which is sworn at under £60,000, is to go to the Jewish congregation in Auckland. The trust is to be administered by trustees “to accumulate income for 15 years, if necessary, and for the purpose of founding an educational school, college or institution in Auckland giving educational facilities according to recognised English standards as applied to the Jewish population in New Zealand being British subjects.’’ Should the fund be insufficient, the trustees are empowered to draw up a scheme to provide education facilities for Jewish children of British-born or naturalised parents.
Mr Goldwater’s wish was that the trust be known as the “Bernard Goldwater Jewish Education Trust.” The executors of the estate are the Guardian Trust, the Rabbi of Auckland and president of the Auckland Synagogue.
Mr Goldwater, who was 83 at the time of his death, had interests in the hotel business, and was a well-known racehorse owner.
