80 Killed Sn Quake

QUITO (Ecuador), Fri. (2.30 p.m.). .—Earthquakes in Ecuador today killed at least 30 people, according to an official announcement.

Strong shocks rocked the cities of Ambato, 55 miles south of Quito, and Latacunga, 35 miles south of Quito, and the towns of Salcedo, Pujili and Saquisili, in the provinces of Cotopaxi and Tungurahua. Official reports say the bodies of 80 victims have been removed from the ruins at Ambato.

Reports from other centres said two church towers toppled and one coach of a passenger train overturned. An undetermined number of casualties is reported from Rio Bamba, where 4 ’some houses were destroytd. The populace at Guayaquil arc reported to have panicked.
