LOADING AGAINST PRODUCER
jh e Government valuer came round and lilted my rates from 9;,'d in the
pound to 19d in the pound. The Bay Council now appears to be going to load us with another 4£d in the pound, or 27d on my, old pounci value. I hope this will be food for thought. It is clearly evident to me that the producer has only one course, and that is to demand a 40-hour week for the manufacture of his produce, and a pavmtnt to meet those 40 hours. —G. HAYES.

VETERINARY SERVICE
or four years ago, when I had one cow horn another.
I could not get the Government vet. and I lost the cow. In the July issue of the N.Z. Journal of Agriculture it is stated: “(1) If a cpw has difficulty in calving, veterinary assistance should be sought; (2) veterinary assistance should also be sought if the cows do not clean within 48 hours.” I wonder if the local Government veterinary surgeon would advise the farmers as to how to get this assistance? —ROBT. McDONALD.
