Gob 4 Strikes Pole, Hood Lifted Off

The hood of a car which struck a power pole at Waipu yesterday was lifted off. One of the two occupants of the car was admitted to the Whangarei Hospital. Travelling towards Auckland, Mr D. Appleton, of Whangarei, was diiving the' car which was following a truck. When the truck stopped Mr Appleton swung out to pass it only to see another truck approaching in the opposite direction. Swinging in again to the left, Mr Appleton's car struck a power pole which lifted the hood from the body. Mr Appleton escaped injury but his brother-in-law, Mr 'K. T. Wray, suffered cuts to the left cheek and above the left eye and was admitted to the Whangarei Hospital for observation.
