Auckland Beats Canterbury 21-3

Kuguy

AUCKLAND. Thu. (Sp.)— Auckland beat Canterbury at Eden Park yesterday by 21 points to 3. The game was not very inspiring. Auckland scored six tries and a penalty goal, to a try. In the first half Canterbury held Auckland to 6—3, but in the second spell the southern backs failed badly. The Canterbury forwards were better than the Aucklanders.

Canterbury held an advantage in the clean hooking scrums by 17 to 14, while Auckland was superior in the decisive line-outs by 18 to 8. Auckland was penalised seven times to Canterbury’s 11. Several of Canterbury's penalties were for scrum breaches, because P. V. Vincent, the halfback, put the ball in favour of his own hooker. T. Barter, the Auckland half, was similarly penalised. Tries for Auckland were scored by Dobson, Smith (2), McLean, Barter and Kelly. The last-named also kicked a penalty goal. R. C. Stuart scored a try for Canterbury.
