Mora! Danger To Young Maori People

DUNEDIN. Thu. (P.A.)—“ln granting tourist house licences. I hope the authorities will seriously consider the moral danger to our Maori young men and women who may be employed in those tourist centres where liquor is to be on sale.” said the Right Rev. F. A. Bennett. Bishop of Aotearoa, in a statement last night. “It is a well-known fact that Maori girls are usually very bright and efficient and popular as part of the staff in any hotel or tourist resort.” he added.

“The danger is not only on account of the usual temptation to drink or to take more than is good for them, but they may often be embarrassed by the pakeha tourist who. through liquor.' becomes a moral danger to these girls.”
