WANTED TO VOTE

ROTORUA, Thu. (Sp.)— A man held in custody on remand escaped from the Rotorua lock-up in the early hours of yesterday morning. He was recaptui’ed by the police in the yard of a Rotorua hotel at 6.30 o’clock last night. He is Richard Norman Yeend, 22. seaman, who was charged in the Rotorua Police Court yesterday with the theft of goods worth £ll2 from the Sonoma at Auckland. He was remanded to Auckland. When arrested last night the man gave as his excuse for escaping that he “wanted to vote.”
