Union Disciplines Critical Communist

LONDON, Wed. (1 p.m.)—A British Communist who criticised “extravagant expenditure” on Clarence House, Princess Elizabeth’s London home, has been banned from holding office in his union until May 31 next year. He is Norman Kennedy, former London district secretary of the Amalgamated Society of Woodworkers, who has been disciplined for “bringing the society into discredit.” The Woodworkers’ Union executive council took action after an article appeared in a London newspaper, and complaints had been received about a broadcast to America by Kennedy. The general council disallowed Kennedy’s appeal against his dismissal. He has also lost his position on the London Trades Council, and as a representatives to the Trades Union Congress.
