PARIS, Wed. (1 p.m.).—Princesses and countesses, film and theatre stars, fashion writers and fashion buyers, had to submit to close police scrutiny of their special passes today when Pierre Balmain opened the first of the Paris fashion collections for autumn. The police checked all people attending the show because recent picketing by striking seamstresses caused fears that the strikers might sabotage the show. Huge draped cape collars were featured on his full-skirted cloth coats and luxurious fur coats. Skirts were 13iin. from the floor. Most were pencil slim. A great deal of the collection had touches from the Far East such as mandarin hats and mandarin sleeves on jackets.
