Compulsory Military Training Poll Tomorrow
TOMORROW New Zealand voters will have the opportunity of expressing their views on the Government’s compulsory military training proposals. Polling booths will be open from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m.
Voters must vote in their own electorates unless they have good reason for not being able to vote there, and employers are required by law to allow workers time off for up to two hours on full pay to allow them to vofc.
An appeal has been made for housewives and others able to do so to vote in the morning to avoid queuing and congestion at booths. This will distribute the spread of voting throughout the day. MARSDEN ARRANGEMENTS In the Marsden electorate special facilities have been made available at the Courthouse for the issue of postal voting papers. Special facilities have also been made at the Town Hall for Maori voters, two booths being set aside for their exclusive use. In addition to the published list of European polling places, the usual Maori polling places will be operating thoughout the district. Maori votes will not be counted in conjunction with European returns but will be sent to Auckland.
For absent voters, two booths have also been set aside at the Town Hall, and for this reason absentee votes can be more expeditiously handled there than at the smaller polling places.
