July Rainfall Less Than Hoff Average
Although rain fell in Whangarei on 22 days in July the total fall was only 3.s6in—less than half the average of 7.71 for the month. The .heaviest fall was .49in in the 24 hours to 8 a.m. on July 3. For the last 10 days of the month temperatures were unusually high for winter, ranging to 62deg on July 28 and maintaining a level above 50deg for 10 days. The lowest temperature was 44deg at 8 a.m. on July 18. Minimum rainfall for July occurred in 1930 when the total was 2.19 in. Compared with this the maximum recorded in 36 years was 20.10 in in 1946.
