More Cement for Farmers

More cement will be allocated to farmers by the Portland Cement Company to enable them to carry out repair and maintenance ‘work in the slack season. Advice to this effect has been received by the Northland Aid for Britain Committee from the National Council for Aid for Britain. Northland dairy companies approached the Northland committee seeking a special allocation of cement for farmers who could only do certain classes of concrete work in the slack season when the cows were out of production. In response to representations from the National Council, the Building Controller asked the Portland Cement Company to make cement available to the dairy companies immediately. Previously only a small amount of the company’s output was available for the local market. . This increased allocation should ease farmers’ concrete repair problems.
