TOKIO, Sun. (11 a.m.)— General MacArthur’s headquarters refused a request by Premier Yoshida to increase the Japanese police force to combat the Communists' campaign, according to a reliable report. General MacArthur’s Government section chief (Brigadier-General Courtney Whitney), replying to Yoshida, is reported to have reminded the Premier v that the danger from the extreme Right in Japan was greater than the extreme Left Brigadier Whitney is also reported o have notified Yoshida that there would be no relaxation of the purge of former militarists and zaibatsu (industrialists) political figures.
