Mr Harris Bindon 94 Years Old Today
Celebrating his 94th birthday today. ‘ Mr Harris Bindon, of Kamo, still enjoys good health and remains amazingly active for his age. A native of Anahu, County Tyrone. Ireland, Mr Bindon came to New Zealand with his parents and four brothers when he was about 10 years old. He has spent most of his life in Northland, and farmed at Ohaeawai and Okaihau, settling in Whangarei about 1920. Several years later he retired to Lillian Street, Kamo, where he resides at present. Unfortunately, Mrs Bindon has been an inmate of the Whangarei Hospital for the past two years. Mr Bindon's many achievements during his life include the breaking in of two farms from the virgin bush in the Far North, and, quite recently, the painting of the roof of All Saints’ Church at Kamo. The latter was done when Mr Bindon was 88 years of age. Members of the Bindon family are: Mesdames W. H. Bennett (Wellington!), G. A. Anderson (Okaihau), T. W./ Wakelin (Whangarei) and Messrs R. Bindon (Ohaeawai), I. and O. Bindon (Whangarei), and P. Bindon (Rangiahua).
