Station IXW Whangarei Opens On August 27

THE Minister of Broadcasting (Mr Jones) announced today that Station IXN Whangarei will be opened at 8 p.m. on Saturday August 27. ...... Station IXN is the third of the new 2 k.w. stations being installed and to come on the air. The first station was opened at Timaru in January last, and the second at Hamilton at the beginning of July.

The temporary studios at the corner of Rust Avenue and Alexander Street were constructed from buildings declared surplus by tne War Assets Realisation Board, while the mast and transmitter are located at Tikipunga. The station will maintain a broadcasting schedule similar to that in operation at Timaru and Hamilton, where the stations are on the air seven hours daily. Station IXN will operate on a frequency of 970 kcs.
