183 Essies For Northland Champs

Table Tennis .

A total of 183 entries has been received for the 12 events at the Northland Tabic Tennis championships being staged by the Bay of Islands association at Kawakawa tomorrow.

Preliminary games will occupy the day, and the finals will be decided in the evening. The titles at stake are the singles and doubles for men and women and the combines in the A grade and B grade, and men’s and women's junior singles. Nineteen trophies have been donated by the following: Wisemans, Ltd., Whangarci; Wilkinson Bros.. Ltd., Whangarci; John Court, Ltd., Whangarci; Messrs A. Henderson, G. Wade, V. McCready, J. Stirling, C. L. Pryor (Ohacawai), Mrs V. Ellis, Messrs G. Pattison. C. L. Cheescman, L. Chceseman, J. Bennett (Moerewa). Messrs H. Dodd, B. Ripley (Orouta), Messrs C. Mills, D. Hayden, E. E. McLoughlin (Kaeo), Messrs K. Ashcroft, R. Kiernander (Kerikeri). The championships are open to all players registered with the W'nangarei, Bay of Islands and Northern Wairoa associations, which are affiliated to the Northland association. The newly-formed Otamatca association did not affiliate this year.

Seven tables in two halls will be in use to accommodate the matches and enable the tournament to be completed in one day. The finals will be played on one table.
