Britain Still Market For Dominion Meat
AUCKLAND, Fri. (P.A.). —“Whatever happens, housewives of Britain will still provide a dependable market for New Zealand meat.” This statement was made by Mr C. 11. Kneebone, supervising grader for the Auckland Farmers’ Freezing Co., Ltd., after his return from Britain and the Continent.
‘‘There seems hi be a very friendly feeling aeicl definite bearing towards New Zealand,” he said. “Many butchers in Britain think our lamb the best in the world.” Mr Kneebome's chief purpose was to study the judging of New Zealand Meat Board's competition for lamb and beef. Carcases which had won awards in the Dominion were judged in London and then displayed at Smithfield market. All lamb was judged by eye as in New Zealand. While the measurement system was used in Auckland •tor beet, it still was judged visually in England. New Zealand judging compared very favourably with results in England where the judges were still using prewar standards to which they hoped to return.
