Councillor's Troubles Were Wafer Bubbles

Whangarei and its environs abound in soda-water springs, which add to the borough’s appeal. However, they sometimes also form traps for the unwary. Yesterday a man well known in Whangarei Borough Council affairs visited a quarry at the end of Rust Avenue. . Running through the quarry, unbeknown to him, was an air-line, and over a junction in the line lay a pool of water. Air escaping from the join made the pool bubble furiously, just like a sodawater spring. The councillor espied this, went over to the water, smelt it. scooped some up and sampled it, under the impression that he was making a discovery. His verdict on the taste is not known —but imaginable—and it is not thought likely that the “spring” will ever be advertised as one of Whangarei’s additional attractions.
