Move To Sell Eggs By Weight

AUCKLAND, Fri. (P.A.).—A system of selling eggs by weight will be initiated at Tauranga next week, and, as soon as possible, extended to Auckland and other parts of the Dominion. The Tauranga charge will be 2/01 per lb. The secretary of the New Zealand Master Grocers’ Federation (Mr R. M. Barker) said today, that it was expected that after August 14 there will be a slight reduction in the price per pound as increased supplies came forward. The scheme would end the grading of eggs and definitely benefit the consumer. Mr Barker and Mr F. Jackson. Auckland member of the New Zealand Poultry Board, attended a meeting at Tauranga of retail grocers, at which it was decided to try the scheme forth ree months.

It is intended, at the end of the first month, to review the experiment.
