Miss Bissett Heads ‘Popular Girl’ Contest
Miss Joy Bissett, representing the Whangarei Operatic Society, holds a commanding lead in the Whangarei Progressive Society’s “Popular Girl” contest which closes at 11 o’clock tomorrow night.
Each candidate will be at the Town Hall tomorrow evening when stalls will be conducted in the final drive for funds.
The crowning ceremony will take place on December 10. The positions of the candidates at midday today were: Miss Joy Bisset (Operatic Society) 52,000; Miss Noeline Pitts (Bargain Stores) 35,200; Miss Zoe Alach (Warrington Studio) 9140; Miss Patricia Harty (Municipal Band) 9120; Miss Pat Webb (Lines Bros.) 9120; Miss Rhayma McPherson (Amateur Athletic Club) 9110; Miss Fay Johnson (Amateur Swimming Club) 1960.
