improvement In General Health Of King Reported

LONDON, Mon. (11 a.m.) —A bulletin issued at Buckingham Palace this morning said an improvement in the general health of the King is apparent, and there is less cause for immediate anxietyregarding the right foot.

The bulletin said: “As a result of relief from walking, standing and fatigue, an improvement in the King’s general health is apparent. “This is an important factor in reestablishing arterial circulation to his feet, which is also being encouraged by appropriate medicinal and physical measures.

The King is carrying out his State business, but is combining this with rest and treatment.

COMPLETE REST

The correspondent states: “I learn that His Majesty is now spending most of his time in bed. “This is not to be taken in any way as an indication of lack of improvement in his condition.

“In this condition restoration of circulation is a slow process, extending over a period of months. “Some improvement has already taken place and there is less cause for immediate anxiety regarding the right foot. Signed: Maurice Cassidy, Thomas Peel Dunhill, J. R. Learmouth, Morton Smart. John Weir." ENCOURAGING SIGN

“It is necessitated by the need for complete rest, on which His Majesty’s doctors place so much importance. “They insisted on his remaining in bed most of the time.

“The Queen spends a great deal of time each day with His Majesty at his bed, and takes most of her meals with him in his room.

The doctors stayed at the Palace fo 2hr 30min.

“While he is thus gaining maximum rest, His Majesty is seeing all his papers, correspondence and State documents without exception, in the usual way. TIME FOR READING “The absence of public engagements enables him to devote more time to reading for pleasure, and he is also listening to the wireless. "He enjoys watching the television programmes. "I have good medical authority for stating that His Majesty has received neither massage nor electric treatment of the leg. “The doctors are keeping his condition under close and regular observation, but there is no indication when they may issue another bulletin.”

The Queen was shown the bulletin immediately it was prepared.

Then the news of their father’s improvement was conveyed to the Princesses.

Reuters Court correspondent says the fact that only a week after the first bulletin the doctors can state definitely that some improvement has already taken place, must be regarded as a good and encouraging sign. He points out that the doctors have not given any specific name to the illness from which the King is suffering, nor have they mentioned the exact nature of the treatment they are administering. The doctors did not indicate when a further bulletin could be expected.
