New Race-Finish Camera

SYDNEY (By Airmail).—Use of the camera to determine close finishes in races has been declared one of the greatest advances made in the sport in recent years, but photographs taken horizontally are by no means infallible.

Makers of the camera equipment used in Australia guarantee its accuracy 100 per cent, but admit that errors can creep in in the printing of the photograph and that perfection may be destroyed when horses on the outside or inside the field obscure possibly placed runners. A new camera is being produced in Melbourne which takes pictures from above the track, looking straight down at the field, thus avoiding both the faults inherent in the old type photo finish camera.
