Go! And He Goeth

A little lesson in the correct behaviour of a defendant was administered by Mr W. C. Harley, S.M., in the Whangarei Court today. Mr J. D. Gerard had been endeavouring to ascertain how much money the defendant had at a certain date. “How much money did you have in 1945?” he asked. “I'm not going to tell you,” answered defendant. “You will answer, the question,” warned the magistrate. “I won’t say,” was the answer. “All right, take him over to the police station and bring him back at 12—for contempt?” Mr Harley ordered. The defendant left the court, accompanied by a constable.
