AWARD TO CADET As an annual award to the second best n.c.o. in Area 3 (Northland), a silver-topped challenge stick is to be presented to W.0.1L J. Cope, a pupil of Northland College, Kaikohe. Cope is a prefect at the college and, in the field of sport, is captain of both the senior Rugby and cricket teams. ONE “QUAD” STILL ALIVE Only one of the quadruplet calves born to Charm, on Mr C, N. Pryor’s farm at Pakaraka is still alive. A 351 b calf was born dead, another 351 b calf died soon after birth, and a 301 b calf died in the week-end. The remaining calf is lighter than any of the others: and, although delicate, appears to be in excellent condition. GOLD FROM THE SEA An audience of more than 400 in the Princess Theatre at Kaitaia on Sunday night thoroughly enjoyed the film screening and lectui'e by Mr J. E. Johnstone dealing with his deepsea diving and salvage work, with special emphasis on the Niagara gold salvage project. Funds of the Mangonui St John Ambulance Brigade based on Kaitaia benefited handsomely as a result. The programme was also attended by a large number of school children last Thursday. The freshness and verve of amateur work at its best is delighting audiences in the Waikato this week as the Auckland Repertory Ballet Theatre continues its tour. Whangarei audiences will have the opportunity of renewing their acquaintance with this talented group on Thursday and Friday. This year’s show is reported to be even better than that which delighted such full houses last year. 758 A lovely show of handkerchiefs, handbags, scarves, hosiery, towels and underwear, etc., is being made by Henry Wilson.
