'Dairy Bill May Retard Companies'
HAMILTON, Tue. (Sp.)-The opinion that the passing of the Dairy Products Marketing Amendment Bill would tend to retard the progress of dairy companies was expressed by Mr H W. Davey, general manager of the New Zealand Cooperative Dairy Co. Ltd., in a circular to the shareholders of the company. Mr Davey said that under the amendment legislation the commission was being given, power to deal with dairy produce, which was. defined as including milk and cream, butter, cheese and all other products of milk or cream whether derived by manufacturing processes or otherwise.
"This definition obviously embraces a number of products such as milk powders, butter-milk powder or casein which hitherto have not been undo control and which, in consequence, we have been in the position to market for the benefit of our suppliers," he added
"It is true that during recent months the Marketing Commission has acted as agents for the various dairy companies in the marketing of any dairy produce other than butter and cheese and for prohibiting, restricting and controlling the export of any such dairy produce by other persons. But an entirely new situation i: brought about when the commission is granted wide powers that will prevent us from disposing of our produce in the manner which we consider best in the interests of our suppliers.”
