Daylight Classes For Apprentices

AUCKLAND, Sat. (P.A.)—Daylight classes for the technical training of apprentices in New Zealand will begin in Auckland early next year, and almost simultaneously in Wellington and Christchurch.

Seventy-nine Auckland boys who are learning to be plumbers and gasfitters, will be the first pupils. Each will receive a letter directing ,him to attend four hours a week during normal working hours. The New Zealand Plumbers and Gasfitters’ Apprenticeship Committee will extend this training to between 700 and SOO.

OTHER TJtADES NEXT Th Apprentices Committee has just concluded a two-day discussion in Auckland under the chairmanship of the Dominion Commissioher of Apprenticeship (Mr H. C. McQueen). Mr McQueen said today that the motor industry will soon provide technical training for some 1500 apprentices.

Daylight training for building trades apprentices has been recommended to the Arbitration Court, and is also being planned for mechanical dentistry apprentices. A special school will .be established in Christchurch, in conjunction with the Wheat Research Institute, for the training of bakery apprentices from all parts of the Dominion. , MORE COMMITTEES Twenty-two Dominion apprenticeship committees will be operating by the end of this year. Twenty-two district committees are active in Auckland and the Northern (Industrial District.' The Arbitration Court has already made three apprenticeship orders. Three more will be brought down shortly and applications for nine more will be considered within two months.
