Efforts To Meet Demand For Oil

AUCKLAND, Sat. (Sp.).—All-out efforts of the oil industry to catch up with the post-war demand were showing results in spite of the acute steel shortages which had retarded \ the building of much-needed refineries, said the general manager of the Vacuum Oil Co., Pty., Ltd. (Mr R. Martin).

Mr Martin returned to Auckland from Sydney by air yesterday after attending a worldwide conference of oil exploration, producing, refining, transportation a'nd marketing experts at Singapore. He expressed confidence in the oil industry’s ability to overtake the world shortage of petroleum products. Further progress was to be expected, and the overall position within the industry was good, notwithstanding the political unrest, exchange restrictions and unsettled economic conditions in many oil-producing and refining countries.
