Low Scoring In Whangarei Cricket
Rather low scores by Central and Albion and a handy 126 by Old Boys were scored in the pre-lunch session of two hours of Whangarei senior championship cricket matches today. The Centra'l-Albion game marked the opening of the Central club’s new turf wicket at Jubilee Park, where the delightful surroundings created an atmosphere fitting the game. The Jubilee Park wicket, with the dew still about, played tricks in the first half-hour of Central’s innings. At one stage six wickets were down for 21. but the hard-hitting Knew and solid Macnay stopped the rot and figured in a stand worth 38. Knew hit six fours in his 37. Drake’s 5-22 come from 13 overs. H.S. BOWLERS ON TOP With the exception of Wilton and Rasmussen, the Albion batsmen fared badly against the High School bowlers. The last five wickets were worth only 17 runs. Four of these wickets fell to Palmer, the sixth bowler tried, who took 4-9 off five overs. Feature of the morning term at Kensington was the fine fielding of the City team against Old Boys. Nisbet and Kelly topped 20. Kelly and his fellow-opener, Philpott, were both run out. Kelly was fifth out with 99 on the board. Old Boys were all out for 126, McLeod again showing excellent form to top-score with 43. Louden took 5-37 off 11 overs, keeping accurate length. Dunn took 2-25 off 21 overs. Scores: CENTRAL (74 (Knew 37; J. Drake 5-22) v. ONERAIII, 8 for none. ALBION 'BO (Wilton 22, Rasmussen 20, Arneil 11; Palmer 4-9). OLD BOYS 126 (McLeod 43. Nisbet 26. Kelly 22, Holmes 16; Louden 5-37), v. CITY.
