Marching Teams For N.i.Champs.

Two girls’ marching teams will leave from Whangarei on Friday to participate in the North Island Girls’ Marching Championships, which will be held at Rotorua this week-end.

The teams will represent the Whangarei Marching and Recreation Association and will be managed by Mr S. V. Higgins, physical welfare officer, with Mrs D. L. Ross as chaperone. Messrs Nelson and Howard Ross, as coaches will also travel with the team. Although the infantile paralysis epidemic prevented competitive training, the teams have been practising assiduously and have reached a high standard.

The trip has been made possible by the generosity of Whangarei business firms -which have contributed to meet the expenses involved A total of 32 teams, including the New Zealand champions will be taking part in the competitions. Th Whangarei teams comprise Mrs Duncan Ross and Misses R- Bailagh, R. Hunter, D. Kennet, M. Austin,Z. Sissons, J. Taylor, P. Kernohan, J. Windress, P. Allison, R. Hopkins, B. Griffiths, G. Raynell, V. Adams, Y. Gillibrand, H. Skelly, G. Bowyer, D. Franks, A. Walton, M. Allen, N. Finlayson. B. Keens and I. Perkinson.
