Keep lowers Shield

ATHLETICS

AUCKLAND, Mon. (Sp.).—By an overwhelming points margin the Auckland junior team retained Hie H. L. Towers Shield, when the New Zealand junior and women’s amateur athletic championships were completed at the Olympic Stadium on Saturday. Auckland had the shield safely won before the final junior event of tire day, the 880 yards relay, and clinched its hold with a spectacular win in this event.

Auckland's final tally was 58 points, Wellington finishing second with 27 points, and Waikato next with 26 points. It was a much closer tussel in the women's section, Ctago and Auckland fighting it out-with little between them in the last events.

Ctago finally took the Doreen Lumley Shield by 10 points from Auckland, with Hawke’s Bay-Poverty Bay well back third.
