No Local Advice On Christmas Lighting
No indication of any concessions in regard to Christmas lighting for shops in Whangarei could be given this v morning by the electrical engineer to the Whangarei Borough Council (Mr W. J. Dawson). As yet the Whangarei Borough Electricity Department had received no information from the Electricity Controller (Mr F. T. M. Kissel), and, apart from the statement published in the Press, knew nothing concerning the concessions, said Mr Dawson. AUCKLAND POSITION The Auckland Electric-Power Board could not do any more for its consumers than .it was doing at the moment if it was to keep within its quota, said the general manager of the Board (Mr R. H. Bartley) yesterday. : No concessions for extra shop and street lighting over the Christmas period, as suggested in a circular issued by the Electricity Controller, are contemplated by the Auckland board. “We cannot keep within ottr quota and give the additional facilities that are suggested.” said Mr Bartley. He considered it extremely unwise psychology to upset the attitude of caution and saving that had been develped among consumers merely for a short period of relaxation, even if such relaxation could be granted.
