Loyal Savoy Men Become Shareholders
LONDON, Wed.—Nearly 1500 hotel workers who stayed in their jobs during the Savoy Group strike, which was settled yesterday after lasting four weeks, are to receive shares in the company “as acknowledgment of their loyalty." Mr Hugh Wontner, managing director of the Group, which comprises the Savoy, Berkeley and Claridge’s and Simpson's restaurant, said the shares (worth 34/- each) would be negotiable, with no restrictions on their use. The strikers will return to work this morning. The grillroom waiter Frank Piazza, whose dismissal caused the strike, will be found a new job and paid a gratuity.
