WELLINGTON, Thu. (Sp.)-When the elected vice-president of the New Zealand Waterside Workers’ Union (Mr W. Lang), of Lyttelton, resigned his position to which he had been elected by a slender majority, Mr A. Drennan. of Auckland, was elected in his place. This will be the fifth year in succession that Mr Drennan has held the position. The national secretary (Mr T. Hill) denied that the resignation was the result of a speech by the president of the union (Mr H. Barnes) at a turbulent meeting following the election. Mr Hill said that Mr Barnes was not present when the resignation was accepted, but he returned later. Mr Barnes declined to comment on the position.
