No Drome In Meantime
(Special) DARGAVILLE, This Day. There would be no construction of new aerodromes in the meantime except in one case where the work was authorised last year, said the Minister of Defence (Mr Jones) in a letter to the Dargaville Chamber of Commerce. Th.e chamber had asked for more rapid progress in the provision of a local aerodrome. The Minister added that even the improvement of existing aerodromes had to be postponed. Shortages of manpower, plant and materials had caused the severe cur-
I tailment of the aerodrome developj went programme in favour of other j national works of greater priority. Construction at Dargaville would not ' be proceeded with during the present i financial year. i Preliminary investigations by the | Public Works Department of sites had ] eliminated all so far suggested except I Parore, which appeared to offer possi- | bilities. His department was still awaiting I more detailed reports on the factors ‘involved in developing it.
