Waikaraka Is Graveyard For Two Giant Sunfish
Recurring visits by giant sunfish arc being regarded as something of a plague by residents of Waikaraka. on flic upper reaches of Whangarei Harbour.
When the first one shoaied last Wednesday it was the object of curiosity, mixed with sympathy, as it beat its flippers helplessly on the mudbank. Upon its demise a new problem arose. The sunfish was towed from the shore, bul hauling such a weight hv dinghy proved difficult, and it is still embarrassingly close to dwellings. Yesterday a still larger sunfish. the dimensions of which are lift by lift and 9l‘t by Gfl. came ashore a little further down the inlet. It died within a few hours, intensifying the problem, which is to be put in the lap of the Harbour Board.
