N.Z. Memorial For Crete

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A fitting memorial to comradeship between Greeks and New Zealanders would be erected in Greece and Crete, the Prime Minister (Mr Fraser) assured members of Wellington’s Greek community on Saturday night. He was speaking at a reception in honour of the Governor-General (Sir Bernard Freyberg), given by the Pan Hellenic Association. Mr Fraser said the Government would welcome suggestions from the association and returned servicemen as to the form the memorial should take.

Sir Bernard Freyberg had with him the copy of an illuminated address sent to 2500 Greeks and Cretans who assisted New Zealand troops after the Germans occupied their country. ■ The message, which expresses New Zealand’s gratitude, is signed by Sir Bernard Freyberg and Mr Fraser.
