Victory Contingent Homeward Bound
(Special) LONDON, July 2. The New Zealand victory contingent sailed from Tilbury on the transport Maungamd. During their three weeks’ leave after the Victory Parade, members of the contingent visited most parts of the British Isles, and there is not a man or woman among them who is not deeply appreciative of the hospitality shown them in austerity-restricted Britain.
One naval officer who knew Britain before and during the Second World War said: “The British people have not changed in spite of it all. but the value of their pound note has changed a lot.'’
The farewell given the contingent and the reception given to its members during their visit indicated that the Dominion's representatives in the Victory Parade have made yet another contribution to the great store of goodwill for New Zealand which has accumulated in Britain.
