(Invercargill) MR HATRICK’S CAREER
Born at Hamilton in 1891, Mr Hatrick is a well-known farmer of the Waimate North district. He spent the earlier part of his life in the Waikato and was farming at Papal:lira at the outbreak of the 1914-18 war. He joined the main body of the New Zealand forces, rising from private to the rank of lieutenant at the end of the war. Under the soldier settlement scheme Mr Hatrick took up a block of land at Waimate North on his return to New Zealand in 1919. For many years he was a director of the Kaikohe Dairy Company, resigning from that position this year. He was a prime mover and one of the original management committee on the communal farm machinery scheme operated by the dairy company.
Mr Hatrick has also taken an active part in A. & P. Society affairs. During the recent war he was in charge of the sub-area office at Waimate North, and later served as a company commander with the North Auckland Regiment at Kaco. South Island Seats (F.A.) TIMARU. This Day. The nomination of Mr J. Aeland, M.P. for the Ternuka electorate, which disappeared with the boundary changes, was the only one received by the National Party for the Timaru seat and he will be their candidate at die general election. The seat is at present held for Labour by Mr C. Carr. It is generally assumed that Mr G. R. Herron will again be the National candidate for Awarua, and because of the retirement of Mr A. Hamilton and the abolition of the Mataura electorate by boundary changes, Mr T. L. Macdonald, M.P., appears to be the logical National choice for Wallace. So far the Labour Party has not announced its candidate for either Awarua or Wallace, but it may be regarded as certain that the party will contest both seats.
