Kensington Bowlers’ Annual Meeting
'I he 251 h annual general meeting of the Kensington Bowling Club was held last night in the Croquet Club s pavihon, and was largely attended. The president (Mr W. Bowman; was in the chair. Eleven new members were elected. The president's annual report disclosed that last season’s Jubilee year was an outstanding success, both socially and financially. References to the marked progress of rhe ciub were enthusiastically received.
The treasurer's statement of accounts showed the club to be in a very sound financial position and the revenue account revealed a surplus of £2S7. OFFICIAL PERSONNEL Election of officers for the ensuing year resulted:—Patron, Mr Fred Murdoch. M.P.; president, Mr Geo. Richards; senior vice-president, Mr D. Windust; junior, Mr R. Cahill; secretary, Mr W. Bowman; treasurer, Mr J. McIlraith; green superintendent, Mr E. Arnold; auditor, Mr A. Fairley; management committee, Messrs J. Boucher. E. T. Butler, A. C. Smeaton, T. J. C. Smith, and F. R. Webster.
Match committee: Messrs O. Georgecon, j. Btuck and T. Donnelly; selecrors, Messrs E. Moore. N. Fleming and J. Roberts; delegates to North Auckland Centre, Messrs S. Lowe and F. R. Webster; greens committee, Messrs E. Butler and F. R. Webster; coaches, Messrs E. B. Moore. R. Boag, S. Grifcble and N. Fleming. A ballot for repayment of 10 debentures was held. TWO PRESENTATIONS A presentation was made from members of the club to Messrs J. R. Mcllrailh (lion, treasurer; and R. Cahill (icon, secretary) in appreciation of the outstanding services rendered by them. The presentation was made by Mr W. Bowman, who spoke in eulogistic terms of the splendid work performed by these gentlemen in furthering the interests of the club. Members acciaimd that they were ' Jolly Good Fellows." Messrs Mcllrailh and Cahill replied. Consideration was given to the playing of club competitions on Saturday morning, and it was anticipated that, with the additional time available, games would be completed well before due date. The advisability of playing club fours or percentage fours evoked considerable discussion and it was eventually decided that ordinary draw games according to grade be played on Saturday afternoons instead of percentage fours, it was also recommended that club fours be played on a challenge system. The principle of playing midweek domestic matches with Whangarei club each month was approved. IMPROVEMENT OF PLAY The question of improving the standard of play in the club provoked some discussion in which the subject of coaching occupied a prominent part. It was considered that every effort should be made to improve the play, not only of first-year players but also of those who have been advanced in grading. The meeting agreed that this was a very sound policy and coaching this year is to be carried out on 'the lines suggested. Votes of thanks to the retiring president. officers for their work throughout the season, and tc the Press, concluded the meeting.
