Pay Tribute To Departing Teacher

Appreciation of the splendid work of Mr P. R. Hunt in connection with education in the North, and with the Whangarei branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute in particular, was expressed at a meeting of the management committee of the branch at Whangarei last night. Mr Hunt leaves the Hukerenui School today to take up a new position at Leamington, near Cambridge. A presentation of a cheque was made to him on behalf of the branch by Mr W. D. Teesdale.

During the 10 years Mr Hunt has been in the district, as headmaster first of Titoki School and later of Hukerenui, he had been a most active member of the institute, said Mr Teesdale. He had been a vice-president of the Whangarei branch for three years and was president last year, hi fact, he was the most successful president the branch had ever had. For his work in stressing the social side of institute affairs alone he had earned special praise, and his enthusiasm for all aspects of the institute’s affairs had been of very great value. In him, too, the branch had had a most able representative at the New Zealand Institute Conference for two years.

CLUB MOVEMENTS

Mr Hunt had always been associated with any forward movement in education, continued Mr Teesdale, and in addition had been able to win the support cf the whole of his school district. in particular he had been closely associated with the club movement in the schools, and had earned widespread commendation for his enthusiasm for calf clubs, poultry and sweetpea clubs, on one occasion inspiring his school to win a shield competed for over a very wide area. The Whangarei branch was deeply indebted to him for 10 years of unstinted cooperation, concluded Mr Teesdale. Mr Hunt replied. ,
