Mrs Amy A. Lewis
OBITUARY
The death has occurred of Mrs Amy Alice Lewis, aged 68. well known in Whangarei for her connection with the Happiness Club, the Red Cross and patriotic work during the war. Born in London in 1878. Mrs Lewis came to New Zealand with her husband, MiFrank Lewis, in 1913, and settled in Whangarei. Shunning the limelight. Mrs Lewis was always ready to help any person in distress, and many of her friends benefited from her kindly actions.
Mrs Lewis was very deft with her fingers, and during the war years she made a great number of clothes and toys for the bombed-out and homeless in Europe. Always interested in politics, Mrs Lewis was. for some years, on the executive of the Whangarei branch of the Labour Party. During this time she proved herself both capable and popular. Mrs Lewis is survived by her husband. Mr Frank Lewis. She has no relatives in New Zealand.
