< Special)

AUCKLAND, This Day

At the end of the third round in the Auckland Hockey Association's Country Week competition for the White Horse Cup, Whangarei A. Rodney A and Franklin A remained unbeaten.

The third round results were: Rodney A 3 (L. Wyatt 2, R. Sharp), Rodney B 1 (B. Andrews); Franklin A 4 (L. Gash, E. Farley, R. Haycock, C. Cooper), Whangarei B 1 (T. Graham); Whangarei A 5 <C. Bint), Northern Wairoa 0; Waipa 1 <E. Curry), Franklin B 1.

Points gained by teams at the end of the third round are: Rodney A, Franklin A, Whangarei A, 6; Rodney B, Whangarei B, 2; Franklin B, Waipa, 1; Northern Wairoa, 0. TOO STRONG FOR N.W. Great interest was taken in the afternoon games. Rodney A met Rodney B in a game which produced good hockey, the A team having slightly the better of the exchanges. The A forwards combined well, the outstanding two being C. Ashton, the right wing, and L. Wyatt, inside left. K. Meiklejohn; right half, was a tower of strength, and A. Henderson made some good saves in goal.

The B team's goalkeeper, Barry, stood up to a strong barrage throughout, and saved his side on many occasions. J. Dunning was a great pivot at centre half, and S. Smith played well at left fullback.

Whangarei A was too strong for Northern Wairoa. and it was a day out for the centre-forward C. Bint, who scored five goals. Franklin A showed better stickwork and superior combination to defeat Whangarei B by 4 goals to 1.

Play was even in the match between Waipa and Franklin B, + he drawn result being a good indication of the run of the play. Franklin B is a team capable of extending the best sides in the tournament.
