Government 1 £4, Shareholders £1

(P.A.)

AUCKLAND, This Day

"Today w» have surplus purchasing power and a great shortage of goods." said the chairman of the Farmers' Trading Company (Mr A. D. Bell) at the annual meeting 1 this morning.

"In the Government policy much is heard about socialisation and state ownership, but the constitution of Government departments for business purposes has made business well nigh impossible as has been amply demonstrated.”

The chairman added that in the passix years the company paid £4 in taxes to every £1 to shareholders.

If the company’s business was bought out by the stale and placed under bureaucratic control, total profits would not return nearly as much as the Government now received in taxation.

A Government regulation should be framed to assist enterprise, not cripple it.
