Robbed Bodies Of Dead Airmen
(Rec. 11.35 a.m.) MONTREAL, June 25 Quoting informed sources, the Montreal Herald says the bodies of 24 Canadian airmen killed in the crash of a Liberator plane at St. Donat, Quebec, on October 20, 1943, were looted of large sums by army deserters who lived in a mountain .hideout.
The Herald said the report of the looting reached RCAF headquarters last August, but was unconfirmed until yesterday when the wrecked bomber was found on a mountain peak. At least 20 of the victims had large sums of money. They w'ere on leave after lengthy service in Newfoundland, where there was little opportunity for spending, and so were taking their savings home.
