DELAY IN HOLDING POLISH ELECTIONS

(11.15 a.m.) LONDON. June 24. Recalling the solemn undertakings of the Polish Provisional Government, and regretting the increased tension in Polish political life, Mr Bevin is gravely concerned at the delay in holding elections in Poland, and by signs that this delay is being used to undermine one of the principal parties permitted by Polish law, said Mr Noel-Baker, in the House of Commons. He replying on behalf of Mr Bevin to a question from Professor D. L. Savory (Ulster Unionist) whether the Foreign Secretary was aware that the Provisional Government had suspended the Peasant Party in six of the most densely populated areas where it had a large following. Professor Savory also asked whether Mr Bevin would point out to the Polish Government that this attempt to force M. Mikolajczyk to join a single election oloc was inconsistent with the Yalta Agreement.
