Canada Remitting Wage Increases

(Rec. 12.15 p.m.) OTTAWA, June 24. The Labour Minister (Mr Humphrey Mitchell.) announced in the House of Commons an amendment of the wage control order to allow “just and reasonable” increases in wage rates. Previously the regulations required an applicant to prove that wages were low compared w T ith a similar industryin the same locality. The Minister explained that revision was necessary because of the changing conditions of the transitional period. The revision places greater discretion upon war labour boards. “The task of maintaining stability in our economic affairs now is much more complicated, calling for greater judgment than was the case when we were fighting for our very existence,” said Mr Mitchell.
